I (and many many others) have an achievement [slashdot.org] called "The Maker"... what does that mean? It's not listed in the FAQ.
Also, how are you computing the total number of Achievements? If you add up my achievements (and if I add the powers of two I get closer) but it doesn't come out to be the number you posted.
Also, if I have CmdrTaco's attention, why not leave this up? You've written the code for it and although it will certainly tax your database (default awards were handed out on different days) to update these values for everyone, why not leave it in place? Are you afraid this would increase karma whoring (it's in powers of 2 anyways) or produce negative effects?
For those of you without Warcraft characters, you add it to your user page and then it appears on the right of your user page as a hyper link to the armory (check out my user page). Then you get a +1 achievement with Level 80 (or I guess whatever level your main is) on your Achievements page.
And with each expansion they will exponentially decrease the difficulty to achieve things until a 2-year-old facerolling the keyboard could... oh. We weren't serious?

WoW currently has a meta-achievement for clearing basically all of the achievements associated with current raid content, some of which require you to do fights in very odd ways, others of which are just plain hard. This is currently seen as "the big one" of achievements, not least because it rewards you with a very fast dragon to ride.
I think the slashdot equivalent would have to be as follows:

I don't play WoW, either. I think it would be nice if they had included the ability to link to characters in other games, as well. Specifically, I think they should have included ability to link to characters in Kingdom of Loathing, since the game itself is essentially a giant, geeky, joke. However, they would have to limit to a single character link, otherwise we'd get people trying to play 50 different MMO games and link all their characters to get more achievements.
yeah, what about those of us who a) don't play WoW; b) have a girlfriend; c) don't live in our parents' basement; d) take regular showers; e) less than 40% of our body weight is excess Cheetos and Jolt; f) can actually have "normal conversations" with non-techies. g) et cetera . . . . .
Is this achievement system designed to make us revert to wearing pocket protectors?
The achievements system was launched on April fools day of 2009 in order to allow for certain joke achievements, but the system itself is a real one. This allows Slashdot users to track accomplishments and milestones (and stroke the epeen, which is what it's all about anyway) as they use the site.
Yes you could, it's a tautology, not a contradiction. If I have all the other achievements and Slashdot gives me this one, then that's fine, I have the achievement, and hence I have the right to the achievement.
More problematic would be an achievement for having achieved nothing. That's when Bertrand Russell would come knocking.
No, he's right. There's an achievement for having a 1-digit uid, along with 2-5 digits, and it's impossible to have both a 1-digit uid and a 5-digit uid.
It would be impossible, there are separate achievements for 1-digit UID, 2-digit UID, 3-digit UID, 4-digit UID, and 5-digit UID, since you (and I) are both 6-digit UID's we won't get a chance of those achievements, and even those who do qualify for one of those can't get them all, therefore it's impossible to get all the achievements.

I don't have that, so it's something you did that I didn't. Does that help?
